Rebecca was named Who's Who for Vocal Performance and additionally received Division I honors in State Solo and Ensemble Contests. She was Soprano Section Leader for Meadows Concert Choir and Choral Union at Southern Methodist University. In addition, she was Soprano Section Leader for Varsity A cappella Choir.
Southern Methodist University's Meadows School of the Arts conservatory awarded Rebecca with a Vocal Performance Scholarship. Her Bachelor of the Arts is in Political Science with a minor in Vocal Performance from S.M.U.
Rebecca Whitaker has taught private voice lessons since 2000. She taught ballroom dancing through Junior Cotillion for five years. Rebecca studied singing for eight years and piano for eleven years. Her specialty is in preparing students for auditions, including creating a portfolio and choreographing performances.
Rebecca Whitaker performed with the United States Collegiate Choir European Tour. Fifty members strong, they toured Italy, France, Austria, Germany, England, Holland, and Switzerland, singing sacred texts in European cathedrals, including St. Paul's Cathedral in London, England.
As a coloratura soprano, she was a member of the Meadows Concert Choir and Choral Union at Southern Methodist University. Under the direction of British composer John Rutter, Rebecca was honored as a Texas All-State Choir member two years consecutively. Rebecca was a Varsity A cappella Choir member, and performed in the audition show group Chamber Singers. She was a Chancel Chorister and Lead Vocalist for a contemporary band.
At the age of two, Rebecca's great-grandmother gave her a miniature piano, and when she turned three years old, she began piano studies under the Yamaha piano program. It was there she learned how to play by ear. Rebecca played her first piano solo at the age of three and sang her first solo when she was five years old, with over 300 people in the audience. Piano, singing, and dancing have always captivated her. Rebecca began studying ballet, tap, and jazz dance when she was just six years old, performing in numerous dance recitals as well as piano and vocal concerts.
Rebecca has been a soloist for weddings, offertories, and civic events in Florida, New Mexico, and Texas. She has performed as a soprano in the musicals "Hansel and Gretel" and "Carmen".
In Dallas, Texas, Rebecca was assistant Choral Director of special programs for Gentry Elementary. She was co-producer of two musical productions. Rebecca directed Christmas concerts, was Musical Assistant for VBS summer camp, and has assisted in volunteer caroling events throughout her community.
Music became a part of Rebecca's life from a very young age.
Music is her passion.
